Systemic Insecticide Injection

The best way to control aphids in the summer is to utilize a systemic insecticide injection in the winter months to protect the new growth as it emerges in the spring. Systemic insecticide injections are accomplished by placing the insecticide into the root zone of the tree where it is translocated through the vascular system throughout the tree. As the new leaves unfold in the spring the insecticide is already in the new tissue. When the aphid attacks the tree they remove nutrients form the tree utilizing a sucking mouth part. The aphids are killed when they ingest the insecticide that is in the leaves.

The systemic treatments are made in late November and December for control the following growing season.
